Personal boundaries

   Posted by: gjovanov Tags: , , , ,

Are you a person that hasn’t really defined clearly what bothers you and you accept pretty much any behavior from others as long as you get approval from them? Or you have defined boundary around things that you want and you don’t want to accept from others, but you don’t express and defend that very much and you expect others to figure out whether they’ve crossed your boundary and if they cross it you get angry and mad at them, blaming them for crossing your boundary? Or you have clearly defined boundaries around about the things you allow, but you get very emotional when your boundaries get crossed? All these examples lead to not having a personal boundary (a healthy one).

What does it mean to have personal boundaries? How to have personal boundaries that are also healthy? Why it is important to have healthy personal boundaries within different context of your life (relationships, family, business, etc). These are some of the questions that I want to cover and provide some answers. Read the rest of this entry »

Values

   Posted by: gjovanov Tags: , , , , ,

People have different values (family, success, glory, freedom, duty or even global good) withing different contexts (career, relationships, family or life in general) and based on their values they tend to motivate themselves and act upon them. This also means that their values are not their wishes or goals. As matter of fact they could want or wish something, but in the core they could value something completely different or even contradictory. For example, a person could not be satisfied with their current job (e.g. although they have a good compensation – good salary, they feel like not being creative and not having the possibility to express themselves), so they would like to find something where they could be more creative, yet they wouldn’t take any actions to achieve that. This means that security in a higher value than their ability to be creative and to express themselves. Other example would be that a person feels that health is important and wanting to be healthy, yet to not take any action on a daily basis to exercise or watch out on their nutrition. Obviously their wants are not congruent with their real values. Get the point?

Recently I read several interesting articles from Clare W. Graves and found his major researching contribution about different value systems and the evolution of them. This stuff blew my mind how profound it was :o . Hence I feel compelled to share it with you. :p Read the rest of this entry »

Manage your time

Posted by: gjovanov Tags: , ,

Often times we find ourselves overwhelmed by a bunch of TODO lists, being too busy or totally stressed up, lacking the time for the things that are important to us. So when it comes to the point of wanting to do something for us like to go on a trip or travel, to go exercise or do sports, to spend more time with our friends or family, to read some books etc. we make an excuses like: “Not now”, “I can’t to that now”, “I don’t have time for such things”, “I’m to busy now. Maybe later”. And the truth is that this “later” never comes :) … Wouldn’t it be nice if we had more time? The day lasted longer? Even then I’m sure we would end up lacking time ;) …. So the truth is that we don’t have MORE TIME. In order to make it more quality, we have to manage the time we have. Before I get into the description of time management, I want to ask you a really important question. What exactly is TIME? How would you define it? I mean think about it! :) Read the rest of this entry »

Watch how you feed your mind

   Posted by: gjovanov Tags: , , , , , ,

Your body needs fuel energy we call FOOD! And we all know that our body is a reflection of what we fill in. If we fill it with junk food like unsaturated fatty acids, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine or any drugs, the body becomes an expression of its fuel and usually ends up over-weighted, with a “beer belly” :), weakened, subservient to liver, heart, diabetic or any other disease. As oppose to that, if the body is exposed to a healthy life style, sport activities, if the food which is taken is used only as a fuel (not as a replacement for feeling bad, being depressed or bored…), if enough rested through daily sleep, not over-stressed etc etc; it becomes stronger, more energized and healthier.

Just as the body needs FOOD as fuel to exists, our mind also needs THOUGHTS as fuel to the same purpose and will feed itself on what ever we fill in it. Even though we might not be conscious of the food we feed our mind with, it always processes and “digests” it. What a hell am I talking about? :) Be patient! Keep reading!

Have you ever blamed your genes for your unhappiness in life? You find that you are over-weighted because also everyone in your family is and that you cannot do anything about it because it is written in your genes? Or maybe you are aware of losing you hair because your father and your grand father did? Or you never found yourself to be smart enough, because of your ancestors, because of your genes?

Well, there is a way to get rid of this excuse and to start CHANGING YOUR GENES the way you want them to be! Yes, read that right!  8)

Questions to ask yourself

   Posted by: gjovanov Tags: , , , , ,

Here are some provoking questions that I would like to start asking yourself to get some better insights of whether you are on the right track, following you purpose or you are just sleepwalking through life:

There are two possible ways of living your life. Fulfilling your needs based on achievement and a set of rules that are defined by our society/environment, meaning to have an external orientation for fulfillment. The other one is based on the sense of higher purpose in life, taking into account your internal feelings about the right things to do. This approach has an inner orientation of fulfillment.

Ego vs Spirit

   Posted by: gjovanov Tags: , , , , , ,

Most of us have heard about the term EGO and/or heard it within different contexts like “someone is being egocentric” or “someone being egoist“, but do we really know the meaning of it? What exactly is EGO?

Furthermore, we also know about the term SPIRIT, which has also different meanings within different contexts, but what is actually SPIRIT? Where does it comes from?

I had the privilege to read books on these topics and the information that I share is my personal view based on the knowledge that I have obtained. I will be also referencing the source of information with names, authors, links and images of the books, so that if you are interested you can read them and maybe get a better insight yourself.

Basically this topic could be really long, just because of the reason that includes many authors and books. I will try to shorten it as much as I can, but still long enough to be understandable. So my friends, lets begin!

Do you ever wonder why a teacher is earning between 40.000 € and 60.000 € annually on average, while a professional athlete 400.000 € or 4.000.000 € or even more? Do you find this to be fair?

Most of the people would agree that this is not fair, that the education is more important than sports and it should be payed more. Yea, I agree. This would be politically more correct, BUT and I mean really a BIG BUT (with single T of course :)) this wouldn’t be more logical. How come? What do I mean by this? Well, it is simple because of the leverage factor or the factor of influence. Consider the following:

First and foremost I would like to start my blog talking about intelligence. Within this article I will refer to the intelligence of humans and I will try to answer to the following points:

  • What is intelligence?
  • What kind of theories that are trying to describe intelligence?
  • Can it be measured and if so, how?
  • Can it be increased and if so, how?
  • Can intelligence be used as a predictor for success in life?

I became really curious at finding out answers to the mentioned questions and the information that I share with you is a result of reading books and researches on the topic, as well as personal observations and experiences. And as such should not be taken as a scientific theory or evidence, but as the obtained knowledge helped me understand it, I feel obligated to share it and I hope you will find it helpful too. Before I continue further, I have to warn you that some of the claims and explanations that I provide will exit the scope of science and will go into the direction of philosophy. :)
